Riding the Waves of Menopause Through Yoga

As a woman navigating my own menopause journey, I find it both a privilege and a joy to guide intimate groups of women through the practice of yoga. Each woman comes from a different stage of this transition, and together, we explore ways to support ourselves through it.

Menopause isn’t something to ‘fix’. There’s no one-size-fits-all remedy or magical solution. Instead, it’s a process – a journey of change and growth. Fighting the current only makes it harder; embracing the waves with courage and grace allows us to move forward with more ease.

Sister Sangha

We began our session with a grounding meditation, anchoring ourselves in the present moment. Afterward, we introduced ourselves and shared our personal stories. Together, we discussed our symptoms, how we currently manage them, and how our lifestyle choices influence those symptoms.

The group exchanged tips on nutrition and how small changes, like incorporating certain foods, can make a big difference. We also explored the benefits of aromatherapy and essential oils, learning how they can ease common menopause challenges.

Navigating Options

Our conversation naturally turned to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its potential benefits. While HRT works well for some, it’s not the right choice for everyone. We also discussed natural alternatives, emphasising the importance of finding a personalised approach. Menopause isn’t a condition to ‘cure’ – it’s a transition to live through. With time and support, we can emerge wiser and ready to embrace our second spring.

Connection Through Movement

After chai and cake, we flowed into a yoga sequence designed to release strong emotions like anger, frustration, and fear – common feelings that arise during times of change. As we moved together, we discovered how surrendering to the process can bring freedom, stability, and a sense of sanctuary.

The Power of Yoga

Yoga offers more than physical movement; it nurtures, soothes, and holds us in its embrace. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system – the ‘rest and digest’ state – it creates space for healing.

This session was more than just yoga; it was a circle of beautiful women sharing experiences, listening deeply, and learning from one another. Thank you to everyone who trusted the process. Together, we discovered strength, resilience, and the power of community.

“Had the best afternoon with some lovely ladies in a beautiful, tranquil yoga studio… If, like me, you are on the menopause path – whatever stage: pre, peri, post – then Becky has a wonderful afternoon of discussion, yoga and mindfulness for you. I now have a much needed go to list of alternative therapies to make this transition easier. Thank you so much.” Marie
