Creating Your Perimenopause Toolkit: What Worked, What Didn’t, What’s Next?
When I first started experiencing perimenopausal symptoms, I felt like I was navigating in the dark. Mood swings would arrive without warning, my sleep became unpredictable, and some days I just didn’t feel like ME anymore. Sound familiar?
Here’s what I’ve learned through my own journey and from working with so many incredible women: there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to perimenopause. What works beautifully for one woman might not land the same way for another. And that’s okay.
Today, I want to share how to build your own personal toolkit: one that honours where you are right now and adapts as you move forward.
What Worked
Movement that honours your body
I used to push through intense workouts even when my body was screaming for rest. These days, I’ve found that gentler, more mindful movement serves me better. Restorative yoga, walking in nature, and strength training on days when I feel energised have become my foundations. The key shift? Listening to what my body needs each day rather than forcing a rigid routine.
Creating cooling rituals
When hot flushes hit, having go-to strategies made all the difference. A small handheld fan in my bag, breath work practices to calm my nervous system, and keeping layers I could easily remove became essential. Sometimes the simplest tools are the most powerful.
Building a support circle
Talking openly with other women going through perimenopause changed everything. Whether it’s a trusted friend, a women’s circle, or an online community, sharing experiences reminds us we’re not alone. Connection is medicine.
Prioritising sleep
I started treating my evening routine as sacred time. Dimming lights earlier, putting my phone away, taking a bath with magnesium salts, and keeping my bedroom cool have transformed my sleep quality. Not every night is perfect, but the intention matters.
What Didn’t Work
Ignoring my body’s signals
In the beginning, I tried to power through symptoms, thinking they’d just go away. Spoiler: they didn’t. Pretending I felt fine when I didn’t only made things harder. Learning to acknowledge, listen and honour what I was experiencing was a turning point.
Comparing myself to others
Scrolling through social media and wondering why someone else’s approach wasn’t working for me was a waste of energy. Your journey is yours alone. What matters is finding what supports you.
Expecting quick fixes
I wanted instant relief but perimenopause isn’t like that. Real healing takes time. The tools that made the biggest difference were the ones I stuck with consistently, not the ones promising overnight transformations.
Doing it all alone
I thought I needed to figure everything out by myself. But reaching out for support – whether from practitioners, teachers, or other women – made the path so much clearer and less lonely.
Remember: you’re not broken. You’re changing. And with the right tools and support, you can move through this phase with strength and grace.
What’s Next: Building Your Toolkit
So how do you create your own toolkit? Start here:
Begin with one thing
Don’t overwhelm yourself with a complete overhaul. Choose one practice that feels doable and see how it lands. Maybe it’s a five-minute morning stretch, drinking more water, or going to bed 15 minutes earlier. Small steps build momentum.
Notice what shifts
Pay attention to how you feel after trying something new. Does it bring you energy or drain you? Does it calm your system or create more stress? Your body has wisdom. Trust it.
Be willing to adjust
What works this month might need tweaking next month. Perimenopause is a moving target, and your toolkit should be flexible. Give yourself permission to change course.

Find your community
Whether it’s joining a yoga class, connecting with friends, or finding an online space, surround yourself with support. You don’t have to navigate this transition alone.
Celebrate the wins
Notice when something works, even if it’s small. A good night’s sleep, a hot flush managed with grace, a moment of feeling strong in your body – these matter.
Your Journey Forward
Creating your perimenopause toolkit isn’t about perfection. It’s about discovering what helps you feel more grounded, resilient, and connected to yourself during this transition.
Remember: you’re not broken. You’re changing. And with the right tools and support, you can move through this phase with strength and grace.
What’s one thing you’ll add to your toolkit this week? I’d love to hear what resonates with you.
